M33/NGC598 Pinwheel Galaxy

Pinwheel Galaxy in Triangulum. Bright member of local group of galaxies. Probably nearest after M31. 60' x 35' and located about 2.4 million light years away. Diameter about 90,000 light years

Several areas of nebulosity visible including NGC604on lower left side of galaxy. This is one of the largest HII regions in any galaxy with a size of 1000 light years (vs ~ 30 light years for the Orion Nebula).

Images taken with TEC-140 Telescope mounted on Losmandy G11 mount. Camera used was a Canon EOS20D used at prime focus.

Twenty 3 minute exposures dark compensated, aligned and stacked, background removed and Digitaly Developed in ImagesPlus 2.75.
