Globular Cluster M5 in Serpens

A fine bright globular cluster lying at a distance of 27,000 light years (just a bit farther than M13). The diameter can be measured to be about 30' visually. The total population of this cluster is probably around 500,000 stars with a large number of variable stars.

Images taken with TEC-140 Telescope mounted on Losmandy G11 mount. Camera used was a Canon EOS20D used at prime focus.

Ten 1 minute exposures dark, flat, and bias compensated, aligned and stacked, background removed, Digitaly Developed, and LR sharpened in ImagesPlus 2.50 beta 9.
